Advertising effectiveness study (Male participants only)

Effectiveness of Magazine Advertisements (Approval # 02-2011-23-0)

Who may participate: This study is open to MALE faculty, staff, and outside community members. You must be 18 or older to participate.

This study requires online participation. Click here to enter the study. Sessions will take approximately 30 minutes.

Project description:
This research is designed to test people’s reactions to various types of magazine advertisements. Participants will complete one computer-based task and then two separate questionnaires.

No extra credit is available for this study, given that only male participants are needed. Participants who opt provide their email address will be part of a drawing for a $20 gift card at the end of the semester.

Impression management study

Study title:
Impression management and social networking sites (Approval # 02-2011-22-0)

Feb-Apr 2011 (OPEN)

Who may participate:This study is open to students. You must be 18 or older to participate.

This study requires in-person participation. Participants will need to come to the psychology lab (017 Taylor Hall) to take part in the study. Sessions will take approximately 10-15 minutes. Project description:
Participants in this study will be asked to complete ratings of their own and another student's pictures, along with a short questionnaire.

Juror judgment study

Study title:
The Effect of Childhood Trauma on a Juror’s Ruling for an Adult Defendant (Approval # 03-2011-24-0)

Project description:

The purpose of this research is to better understand how a childhood trauma in an adult defendant’s life would affect a juror’s ruling on that adult defendant. Participants will read a series of webpages and respond to questions regarding the reading.

Wesleyan students may be able to earn extra credit in psychology department classes for their participation. Participants who opt not to receive extra credit but provide their email address will be part of a drawing for a $15 gift card at the end of the semester.

Face recognition study

Who may participate: This study is open to students, faculty, staff, and outside community members. You must be 18 or older to participate.

This study requires in-person participation. Participants will need to come to the psychology lab (017 Taylor Hall) to take part in the study. Sessions will take approximately 30 minutes. Project description:

Participants in this study will be asked to complete a short computer program that includes a face recognition task, demographics questions, and a questionnaire about social experiences.

Wesleyan students may be able to earn extra credit in psychology department classes for their participation. All participants will be part of the drawing for a $25 gift card at the end of the semester. Additionally, candy is offered as a thank-you for participation.
